Echidna Project:

An OPM Fund-raising Project.

The continuing Echidna Project has been hugely successful.  It goes to show that one or two inspired Rotarians can run with a simple project, and make it a truly great project.  The secret to this project is that it uses OPM (Other Peoples Money) to raise funds for club projects.

The Echidna Project involves placing charity boxes and 'spinners' with various businesses and cinema complexes throughout the city and surrounding suburbs.

The spinners were distributed to shopping centres and cinema complexes and returned over $6,000 in OPM during the first four month's of operation.  The collection boxes were distributed to local retail businesses, and are moved to new locations as the need arrises.

The principle recipient for these funds is the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) whose health and emergency service to both local and remote communities is quite legendary.

The RFDS service covers all parts of Australia, providing excellence in aero-medical and primary health care across Australia.  The RFDS has a fleet of 53 aircraft operating from 21 bases located across the nation and provides medical assistance to over 270,000 people every year – that's one every two minutes.
